I’m Gaurav Kataria, a creative writer and screenwriter based in Vadodara, India. My work spans poetry, stories, screenplays and dialogue, driven by a fascination with people—what they say, what they leave unsaid, and the experiences that shape them. I bring that same curiosity to commercial writing, helping ideas find a clear voice and a meaningful connection with their audience.

My relationship with writing began around the age of sixteen, when I started filling journals with thoughts, observations and stories. What began as a personal practice gradually became central to my creative life. I also write under the pen name Gurudas, a tribute to the artistic and spiritual influences behind my work.

Writing Across Forms

My writing credits include the Gujarati short film Siksha, screenplay and dialogue for the Hindi web series Valentine, the story for A Gust of Wind, and screenwriting for the feature film Parivartan. My Gujarati poem Durgandh reflects another side of my practice: using language, rhythm and imagery to express ideas beyond the screen.

Each form asks something different of a writer. A screenplay needs action and structure; dialogue needs to sound lived rather than written; poetry needs precision and space for interpretation. Working across these forms has shaped my attention to tone, pacing and the purpose of every word.

Beyond the Written Word

My creative background also includes acting, directing, video editing, music and film production. These experiences influence how I write. Acting brings me closer to a character’s motivations. Directing helps me imagine how a scene will unfold. Editing teaches me when to hold a moment—and when to cut.

This understanding of performance and production helps me approach a script as something that must work beyond the page. It also informs my commercial writing, where words need to complement visuals, suit the medium and communicate with a particular audience.
